Santa Anita Up for Cup in 2009

What?

Santa Anita may be the site for the 2009 Breeder’s Cup. It’s also the site for 2008. Just how do they plan to run the BC when they can’t even get the track fixed?

The track issues have now cost Santa Anita 11 live dates since the start of the year.

Well they have till October to get it fixed. That is during the Oaktree meet. Seems to me they have some large obstacles to overcome.

The Breeder’s Cup will have 3 new races this year, which increases the number of races 14. The BC is expanding it’s turf races as it should have done long ago, so the number of “dirt” races has not changed from the current 9. That’s a lot of races over a track in a day. They have big problems.

The announcement is to be made today. I don’t see how they can be confident given the current issues with the track.
