This is unreal. The IOC says that the Human Rights situation in China will improve because they gave the Olympics to China this year. Unbelievable the arrogance of the IOC. They are as bad as the UN.

It’s unreal, how they can say this nonsense with a straight face.
The Beijing Olympics will help to improve the human rights situation in China, says a senior International Olympic Committee (IOC) official.
Francois Carrard, a former IOC director general, says the intense spotlight of this summer’s games will force China’s government to enhance its reputation.“If the Games were not awarded to China the (human rights) situation would not have progressed,” he told BBC Sport.
“This is a contribution to progress, an accelerating factor.”
So all the pressure over the last 50 plus years didn’t do anything, but having the Olympics will suddenly make everything wonderful. Arrogance run amuck. It must be nice not having to actually perform, especially when you promise miracles.
