Brett Favre is rumored to retire today after 17 years of playing pro football. Now the question is, will he stay retired?
Quite frankly nothing in his past indicates this is permanent. He reminds me of Roger Clemens, just without the steroids, so far. I just don’t believe he can walk away just yet. It also strikes me as a bit selfish that he kept stringing along the fans and player of the Green Bay Packers and then ‘boom’!
Now he decides to bail on the team in the year they have a very low draft pick. How do they replace him now? Quite frankly this strikes me as normal for today’s athletes. Spoiled Brats. I used to believe that Favre was not one of them, until the endless string of “thinking about retiring” over the summers past.
The Green Bay Packers have much of the blame to bear, also. They never should have allowed him to string them along for so long. Front office cowards now have the Packers in a Pickle.
UPDATE: Favre talked to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen and seems to have confirmed his retirement.
“I know I can still play, but it’s like I told my wife, I’m just tired mentally. I’m just tired,”
“If I felt like coming back — and Deanna (Favre’s wife) and I talked about this — the only way for me to be successful would be to win a Super Bowl,” Favre told ESPN. “To go to the Super Bowl and lose, would almost be worse than anything else. Anything less than a Super Bowl win would be unsuccessful.”
Unreal. Boo-hoo. This guy is more self-centered than I thought.
