Rocco Mediate, Tiger Woods at Trophy Presentation of U.S. Open at Torrey Pines — LA Times
Seems I am not the only one who is tired of “Tiger Worship”. Some people commenting on this article from BBC’s Ian Carter, seem to be just as annoyed as I am about it.
Tiger Worship is Tiring
The entire broadcast from the U.S. Open was so filled with idiotic fawning and worship of Tiger Woods, that I had to turn down the volume. I am not alone in this feeling. Even on the BBC’s site; many are commenting about this disgusting trend in Golf coverage.
I live here in the US so things are probably worse that they are in the UK and other places. However, the pandering and fawning that people, who should know better, do to Tiger Woods has hit a new peak and I for one hope that things now change and quickly.
…
However, televised golf has now been spoiled for me by having to listen to the rubbish that is spouted on a regular basis.
Amen brother.
I guess that is the main problem with Tiger. No one can deny he is easily the best player of the last 10 years. However, no one can also deny he is the least sportsmanlike either. The greats were truly great because they had everything Tiger has in his game (or its equivalent at the time, remember the era they played) but they were all true gentleman. Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus had class, its the one MAJOR flaw in Tiger.
Sadly many don’t get it.
The reason that the TV companies constantly follow Tiger around the course is because of what he can do with a golf ball.
No, they follow him around because they are liberals and he is Black. Granted he is half-black, but they don’t see the Asian part. They also follow him around because they are media people who want to out-do each other instead of putting on a good broadcast that focuses on the sport and not the announcers.
The passing of Charlie Jones and Jim McKay should remind us all that we have little talent left in the announcers booth. Most announcers are talent-less boobs who want to be the star of the show, instead of providing information and helping us follow the action we can not see.
Rocco was mistreated
The treatment of Rocco Mediate by the broadcasters was shameful. It was insulting and grossly offensive. Rocco hung with the best and they made him out to be a boob. He is 45 and playing against people who could be his child. They are in their prime and he is (allegedly) in decline. Yet Tiger had to scratch out a victory against him. Hmmm
They should have focused on Rocco’s valiant effort, to overcome the pro-tiger sentiment, alas they chose to worship Tiger. They choose to play up Tiger’s “injury”, as if he was the only one hurting. Even the announcers said that most of the players played hurt. They also commented how they were making it sound like he was playing football. No one paid attention.
Quite frankly I enjoyed seeing the announcers make fools of themselves when they claimed Tiger’s greatness and he would choke on a shot.
I was rooting for Rocco. Why? It would have been a huge boost to Golf, and he is a far better person than Tiger. He would have made headlines as the oldest for winning the Open, and oldest for first Major victory. Naturally the media would have made it all Tiger.
The broadcast made me not want to watch anymore Golf.
UPDATE: Even NON-Golfers are kissing Tiger’s Ass
