Canadian Maple Bats Maker Wants Higher Profit

Oh he didn’t say that, but that is what he meant. He says that a minimum price should be set for Maple bats so that bat makers will use the best ingredients. *ROTLFMAO* OK, Mr Econ; maybe you missed the 70s when wage and price controls sent us into stagflation. Idiot.

Please guarantee my profit!

The most prominent manufacturer of maple bats said Tuesday that baseball players and owners should ensure the quality of bats by paying roughly triple the price.

Sam Holman, founder of the Canadian company that makes the maple bats popularized by Barry Bonds, said baseball’s maple bat crisis — bats snapping into large pieces and flying toward players and into the stands — could be resolved by setting minimum prices that would compel manufacturers to use the finest wood rather than competing for business by selling cheaper bats made of lower-quality wood.

Oh yes, he is stupid enough to believe this. At least some see the stupidity in this: How not to address the Maple Bat Issue.

It’s clear he is upset that he has competition. Where are the liberals now? Are they going to allow price fixing — which they like when they do it — and allow a business to make a “obscene profit” ? Should be interesting.

Why are they doing this? An Umpire and fan have been hurt by the bats and the dummies are now looking to ban them.

Bats made of ash wood tend to crack and splinter when they break, while bats made of maple tend to snap into chunks with jagged edges that can fly wildly in any direction.

No doubt the Catchers and Umpires would prefer to have splinters flying into their eyes, because they clearly don’t have jagged edges. This is stupid.

Just Test the Damn bats

Here is my solution: test the bats and require a minimum breakage point. Duh. Damn communists, err Canadians.

Bats are covered under the collective bargaining agreement as tools of the trade, so owners and players must agree to any changes.

Another reason to get rid of the Union.

Commissioner Bud Selig has pushed for prompt action in the wake of injuries to a coach and a spectator at Dodger Stadium and numerous near-misses elsewhere. Tuesday night in Kansas City, plate umpire Brian O’Nora was hit in the head by a piece of Miguel Olivo’s broken bat, forcing him to leave the game.

All it will take is one lawsuit, and they will get into action.

It also occurs to me that if players are not getting the hits they expect, then the bats will lose favor, anyway. So the cheapies will go by the way side anyway.
