More Broadcaster Idiocy

Bob Costas must be a complete idiot. Today on the coverage of the U.S. Open at Torre Pines he decided to make a joke about Tiger Woods’ “swing coach”, Hank Haney that was offensive. Another in a long line of stupid comments made by announcers. Horrible coverage.

Charlie Jones Dead

charlie-jones-sportscaster
Charlie Jones, 77, R.I.P.

I grew up listening to Charlie Jones call Football games. It is sad that he has passed. He had a good run. He died in La Jolla, at home of a “Heart Attack”. Our best wishes go out to the Jones family.

“He said, ‘I never felt like I ever went to work,’” Ann Jones said Friday. “He loved it. He said, ‘I’ve got the best seat in the house.’ “

Charlie Jones make the current crop of “sports casters” look like amateurs. It’s sad that today’s broadcasters are more concerned with making their liberal bosses happy; instead of putting on a good broadcast.

Big Brown goes down

Big Brown failed to win the Belmont and thus the Triple Crown. He also made history as the only Belmont favorite to finish dead last.

“I had no horse” said Jockey Kent Desormeaux. “I cannot fathom what kind of freaks the Triple Crown champions were.”

Da Tara went wire to wire and won the race just as Big Brown had won the previous races by multiple lengths. It was a magnificent display.

Early on Big Brown was fighting Desormeaux. It appeared that the horse was ready to make a move to the front before it was time. In the turns Big Brown was sometimes as much as 5 and 6 wide.

Coming into the final turn it was clear that Big Brown was another beaten favorite in the Triple Crown chase. Desormeaux decided to pull up Big Brown and not risk injury.

You have to wonder about a Da Tara, Curlin, and Big Brown match up at the Breeders Cup or possibly the Travers. This would be a huge race.

The second guessing will begin for Trainer of Big Brown, Rick Dutrow. Did the patch applied yesterday hold? Was the horse really ready or was it IEAH’s greed that put him in the race? How will this affect Three Chimneys where Big Brown is to stand stud , now that the horse has faltered? Will Breeding begin now or after he has proven himself?

Many, no doubt are glad to see Big Brown lose. In what some called arrogant and un-gentlemanly behavior of both Dutrow and IEAH, owner of Big Brown; both had angered much of the racing community.

I would guess that Edgar Prado is most happy that they lost. Dutrow and Michael Iavarone — head of IEAH — had accused Prado of deliberately going after horses to throw big races.

Many of the Kentucky Derby, and Preakness horse connections are most likely wishing they had run the Belmont, now.

I myself would have like to have seen a Triple Crown. If IEAH had any sense it could have buoyed the sport and put it back on the map. Oh well, there is always next year. Where is that Fasig-Tipton 2 year old sale brochure?
