Olympics not just for the young

Japan’s Equestrian Hiroshi Hoketsu, 67 next month will become the oldest Japanese to be an Olympian.

He won’t be the oldest to compete, however. That honor is held by Oscar Swahn who won a medal in shooting for Sweden at 72 years, 280 days at the 1920 Antwerp games.

The Ugly Olympics

Are the Olympics really about the “spirit of the games”, or are they just another political vehicle for the left?

Is it really about Unity, or Power

You always hear how the Olympic Games are about unity, and brotherhood. Competing to bring people together. Yet, you have to wonder if any of that is true. It seem obvious like all the “noble” worldwide organizations, the IOC is no different than the U.N. in it’s hypocrisy.

For instance: how can you say that you are not a fascist and then take the games to Nazi Germany? Or how can you say you don’t support Communism when you take the games to Russia; while the US and Russia — the USSR technically — are engaged in a battle of good and evil. The USSR being evil.

Can China Cope

China admits they were not prepared for Snow Storm

This of course begs the question, if you can’t be prepared for snow — a yearly event — how can you prepare for an event that you have never hosted? I just don’t see it happening. Yes, they can talk to others about how to do it, but they are liberals err Communists, and they are not going to listen to anyone.

I am surprised they admitted to not being prepared, that is unusual for Asian societies. Loss of face is a big deal with Asian cultures. Maybe things are changing in China. Will they have changed enough to make the Olympics a success?

China’s Watercube Unveiled

China presents the “Watercube”.

side view of the watercube

Well it’s different.

chinese watercube at night

Not really a cube either, typical commies. It also looks like was built by communists. Big, imposing, dreary, and not so inspiring. I am all for simple design, but hanging opaque Teflon on the wall so that it looks like molecule is uninspiring.

Wouldn’t a watercube be an ice block? Anyway …

Tough Regulation

You think the US Gov is tough on airlines? Try this:

China “warns” airlines to be on time.

BEIJING (Reuters) - China has vowed tough punishments on airlines to ensure that chronically late aircraft run smoothly for the 2008 Olympic Games, state media reported.

Airlines that fail punctuality standards from July through September at Beijing and other major cities would have their offending flight routes suspended for that quarter, the official Xinhua news agency said late on Thursday.

No doubt some will end up with some time in some not so nice place. If China would open up it’s market they would not need to make threats.
